So what happened at AY’s comedy concert on Easter Sunday?

Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha becomes a boxer!
The former Bolton Wanderer player sauntered into Eko hotel midway into the concert to join his wife, Nkechi, who was already seated but looking forlorn and without the glow that she has come to be known for. At the end of the show while exchanging pleasantries with some of the comedians, JayJay almost fell victim to a young man who attempted to rob him of his iPhone, which he slipped into the back pocket of his pants.
Promptly, he grabbed the petty thief by the arm, punched him on the right eye and proceeded to put his many years of football training to use. He kept kicking the thief so hard in the same manner he would have kicked a football into a goal keeper’s net! As the thief ran, so did he pursue after him, kicking him even harder! Really, the ex international should have been a boxer. Click to continue reading...
Ini Edo’s ‘style sense’
She came to the show dressed in a black, thigh-high slit, open-back, plunging dress which was not appropriately long enough. Her strappy sandals weren’t her size and her hairdo should have been better styled with a not-so-cheap hair extension. Her general look? Tacky.

Helen Paul back in shape
Motherhood sure agrees with her. Barely a few months after giving birth to a bouncing baby boy, female comedienne, Helen Paul has gone back to her usual size, looking even better than she was before her pregnancy. Now very occupied, the diminutive small-voiced has added singing to her repertoire of skills and freely distribute copies of her debut singles to close friends in the audience.

AY’s wife almost beaten up!
The crowd was large and the tickets pricey. So, imagine what went on in the mind of a young lady, who had paid for two tables amounting to N800, 000 but couldn’t get a single table! Her insistence to Mabel, AY’s wife, who was dressed in one of the usher’s uniform, to get her tables or have her money refunded, fell on deaf ears. This must have further angered the lady, whose attempt to prevent Mabel from walking out on her, almost ended up in fisticuffs.

  3. that woman that paid 800k ought to be hung on a tree.
Even if you won a lottery and you are paying to have your whole village to come and see the show.
800k to hear AY's dry jokes? Lagos has gone mad!!
AY well done, jare. your hustle and hard work is being rewarded by God, your talent no plenty but God knows you have done well.
This JayJay and Nkechi gist go long o.
Fun spots on the island need to step up security. robbery by all these area boys outside reputable clubs and bars is getting too much. During rhythm unplugged in december guys and girls in particularly were being robbed freely on the outskirts of Eko Hotel either while parking or getting back to their cars.
Yesterday in the name of soliciting for free cash, the boys robbed me of my phone while i was getting into the car outside Deuces.

  8. I agree that AY needs to be sued!!! i paid for a VIP seat (20k) and was lucky to get a seat! Hundreds of people in the VIP section stood throughout the ENTIRE show. Where does is happen that the number of tickets were sold were more than the number of seats available.... And the guy had the nerve to say he had hammered when he came on stage. At some point, people asked for their money back and he said that they might as well go home. He'd rather die than refund their money...

The special guests that flew in from Ghana didnt get tables either, Shame Shame Shame!!! Greed will not kill these comedians! And to think that they don't do this when they have their shows abroad for fear of being sued of all their earnings. They only get away with it here cos they know Nigerians can take any kind of shit doled out and would never think of suing them.

God knows i will not be attending their dry shows again. I'd rather go to the sinima and wash fim!!!

  9. AY chopped my money15 April, 2012 17:24

Yeah, a table was 400k a pop and they still sold more tables than the number they had. I guess they were hoping some people that bought table tickets would not make it. The people at the tables got small chops and some cheap wine. AY himself was the dryest of the comedians, infact he's not qualified to be called a comedian, just a greedy businessman.

The show was a weist! All the artists lip-synced to their CD's, something i could have easily done on my karaoke set at home.

But then, all the shows in this country are like that. same old, same old....

  11. Reading more details about the quality of the event and about the disappearing VIP seats and tables is just sad. Why can't we even get the simple things right in Nigeria? Must we defraud each other for something as simple as a comedy show? If I paid 800k for tables and didn't get them, then somebody is getting arrested. Nigeria is just crazy; I can't imagine something like this happening anywhere else in the world.

  12. Why is Helen Paul looking worse than her usually "ordinary" self? See shoe and dress abeg. Meanwhile AY is just a scam artist and pity people still fall him and some Comedians' tricks.

  16. AY has never been a comedian.
    He is just a hustler.
His accent makes his jokes even worse.
Talk of comedians ,talk of Basket, Julius, I go dye etc.
The likes of Bovi and AY are just hustlers recycling jokes endlessly and using their connections to scam gullible public.

  18. Jayjay, ordinary iphone u wan kill person. Lol. But seriously, I doubt that we have 1 credible event planner in Nigeria. Even the celebrated big names, their events are always shrouded with chaos. They focus so much on the paparazzi of it all, forgetting that its the little details that count, and we consumers are usually fascinated with the "buzz" instead of ensuring our guests have a memorable experience.

I think people should begin to sue these wise-asses. We can't continue to accept daylight robbery. If its not wearing vendors'apparel without notice, its charging for VIP tables when you cannot accomodate them.

  24. @ Ladun's biggest fan - but that is the point! Nigerians drink too much garri to understand sarcasm.

  25. Nigerians are all talk and no action. If you paid N20,000 for a seat and you didnt get it, hell! Sue the guy and his company. The lady who assumedly paid N800,000 and did not get her two tables should sue the guy dry. Let him come to U.S and try that, he will never try it again! If the guy had cheated you out of your hard earned money, it doesn't take as much to get a good lawyer. Just go ahead and sue him. Period! Stop the empty talk or is it lies!

  26. For the life of me, i still don't get why people patronize AY! He is sooo dry,and not funny at all! I have seen some of his stuff on youtube and didn't even crack a smile talkless of laugh (and i love to laugh!)

If u wanna talk of quality comedians biko mention: Basket, I go die, gordons, Julius, CD John was good too (God rest his soul).

Naija people just buy into hypes. Dude fills his shows with artists, and celebs, and does corny skits and people are dying to attend the show just to claim they attended AY's show. Complete waste of money and inflation of his already oversize ego!
