Friends Let Yekini Down- Ex-wife

A former wife of Rashidi Yekini, Adeola, has said that many of those who were close to the late Super Eagles star did little to avert his death. Yekini died on Friday.
The Osogbo-based mother of Yekini’s second daughter, Mariam, was at her former husband’s burial ceremony at Ira, Kwara State, on Saturday, and wondered why Yekini’s friends allowed his health to deteriorate without raising an alarm.
She said, “We were married with a daughter but we stayed away from each other after the divorce. Despite the separation, I visited him regularly each time I came to Ibadan before his death. We had arguments but it was because of the way he was living. Click to read the rest...

“I disapproved his decision to live alone in such a big house although I was not trying to come back. He was such a gentle man but people who surrounded him were his enemies. They must have noticed changes in his life but they kept quiet. He was so generous and kind but they paid him back in a poor way.”

  7. I read somewhere that he was chained and handcuffed before he was taking to the hospital. What does that imply? There should be more to this.

  20. The Government should not be blamed for everything. Can anyone read what his wife said. How can you live alone and expect yourself not to go through depression. God forgive us all our sins.

  23. Those who were aware of Yekini’s predicament and did not act or assist to save his life must go to God in prayer for the forgiveness of their sins.

  24. The bad aspects of polygamy. 3 wives, yet living alone. Sad and let him just rest in peace.

  27. @ anon 12.37, please what should the government have done? Live with him and see that he had mental issues? He had a family and if they were really concerned and needed help, I believe they could have approached NFA and in these days of the internet, could also have made appeals and made his issues widely publicised. Who knopws, maybe some kind hearted Nigerians and ex-colleagues would have gone to his aid. Don't blame the government for everything. He was a professional and at some point in life when you are no longer visible, people tend to forget. And this happens to ex-footballers abroad as well. Ex-wife is just making unnecessary allegations. She is part of the problem here. Blame his family.
