How Do I Pay Back My Debts And Continue My Business

Ladun thanks for always being dere.but I really need you to post this as I'm on the verge of running mad thanks to antidepressants.

I know so many people will know Me.I've even made friends with them here but I've been holding this in for too long.I'm a 24 year old lady.I graduated four yrs ago with a 2.2 and since then life has been hell for Me..I have worked in 8 different places doin odd jobs lyk a sales girl where I was being paid from 8k to 10k monthly just to be able to meet my needs and for feeding my mum which has been really helpful. Please click to continue.

I have searched d nooks and crannies of Nigeria for jobs to the extent that my certificate is in shreds(literally). So I gav up n started sellin recharge cards with the little moni I had saved then all of a sudden a close family of mine gave Me a very large shop for free in a busy area. Then I went into serious thinking about what to sell that will make me gain a lot.

I did a little feasibility study and asked those around there what they needed.Everybody told Me to open a viewing centre(for soccer) combined with a game centre, that d shop is spacious and will accommodate people. So on the 22nd of august I opened the place with the help of people who helped me to raise some cash after I promised them I was going to return it after a month but since I started it has been from one problem to the other.Like the games consoles getting spoilt and then using all my profits for repair. The power supply is bad so I have to buy fuel everyday so at the end of the day I'm left with nothin but my t.fare for that day.Even people don't really come to watch soccer like i tot dey would. A star match was shown yesterday and all I could do was cry bcos I was rily surprised at the turn out.

Only 10 pple came which I had to buy fuel and it became a loss for Me. My problem is dat I'm deep in debts to the tune of 450k. I do not even have one kobo on Me ryt now and its a month already and this pple I'm owing are really harrassin me.I have cried a lot this morning cos one called me today and said bad words to me. I wished I was never born.I've prayed and fasted severally. How do I pay back their money?I'm in shame.I've tried to look for jobs to do but I couldn't find. I got a sales girl job again but its 10k monthly and it means ill hav to work for 4yrs to get back all d moni I owe.I have worked hard all my life and I don't think I deserve this and I'm still ready to work twice as hard if the pay would b good. But what could be going on in my life. Can it be a very big spiritual problem? I really need help.

  6. Sorry my dear I feel for you . Maybe you should see your pastor for counseling though I do not see it as a spiritual problem , more like slow business , someone else here might give you other ideas, but for the 450k debt who knows some might decide to offset me too dey look for money and am harassing my debtors . All the best , no give your self hypertension dis life sweet .

  7. Before you decided to open the shop you should have asked God for guidance and not people. that was the first mistake. the damage is done. all you can do now is pray. nothing is impossible with God. He will see you through this. just trust in Him.

  8. Why not try your hands on smfn like makeup, tailoring. Since you said the shop is located in a busy area, you should have gone into smfn errbody can't do without. Sell snacks, drinks(pet n bottled) and pls learn to invest regularly. Mind you, investing is not the same as selling. As for the loan, God in his infinite mercies would help.

  12. From ur mail, u know what ur errors are. But the worst mistake u made was to take a short term loan to fund a business venture. That is a no no! Businesses need atleast 1 year to start being marginally profitable. I could help you by restructuring your debt profile. I can give you a 1 year loan-for-equity so that you pay off ur creditors and then we work as partners. If you are serious and interested in my offer send me a mail (sleeknd@yahoo.com)

  13. Ur not a serious minded person! Which biz fetches profit within a month? Is it magic? Dont u think if it was that easy everyone shd be opening viewing centers? U better stop sulking and head to work!!
As for the debt, u hv to ask ur creditors to gv u a payment plan cos honestly frm ur line of biz u cant pay back in less than 6mths my dear.... So start getting used to d life of being a biz owner cos u will still get into more debt after uv repaid the 450k... Its a circle... Besides ur biz just started, viewers hv been going to other places b4 urs open so dont expect pple to up n leave, these things take time! Ur customers hv to discover u. Also u need to think about what will make u stand out ie what can u offer that other viewing centers dont? Start from there... My 2cents!

  14. My dear you are not alone. Business has been dull all round, but the most important thing is not to quit. Introduce food into the mix, especially if the area has a lot of guys, they will alway come and eat. Nothing too elaborate, rice, fried stew, plantain, sphagetti, eggs and chilled drinks.before you know it things will start picking up.Also re-schedule your re-payment plan with your creditors and explain your way forward so that you can buy more time. Lastly pray to God to bless all your effort.

  16. you have made a very classic mistake we nigerians make in business.

you never planned on going into business neither did you do an in-depth research and feasibility study on the kind of business, the positives and negatives e.t.c of the business before plunging headlong into it.
it seems to me that the only research you conducted into your business is hear say from people telling you its a high earner...of course the business was not going to succeed in fact i would have been very suprised if you had said the business was a success.

for you to go into that kind of business
1.are you into games(i.e like playing games?)
2.if not do you know a lot of people who do play games?
3.since you set up your shop what sort of awareness, publicity drives have you done?
have you done leaflets/hand bills ? word of mouth even asked ladun to help you showcase it briefly on here for people who live around you?
what competitions with prizes have you done?
those are the pertinent points in business
4.i don't think i have seen or heard of many ladies doing these sort of business in nig

i would seriously advise you to go back to the drawing board and

1.do an in-depth research on the business that is right for you and if its the same one then do it properly, get a rough draft of a business plan drawn up by a professional check out what you are doing wrong and correct it

2.you said its a big shop so look for someone who is trustworthy and conversant with the business to assist you at least till you would have known your way round. for instance a manager who lives in the area and knows ppl in the area he/she will create awareness for your business, spread the word get people in arrange discount deals to get customers in
give out free stuffs you can afford e.t.c

3.lastly go on nairaland business and search for gaming centre business and i am sure you will find more than enough tips to help you along in your quest..
    make sure you
    1.do a business plan
2.look for someone who is much more into gaming and lives in the area to assist you
    3.awareness,publicity drives,competitions with prizes

  27. hmmm vaughn sameul is very right. you absolutely should not have collected short term loan for business that may or may not pick up. I LIKE THAT YOU had confidence but you are learning the hard way now. It will still pick up. Just do a lot of advertising. Serve munchies that naijas cant do without. I think they like all those asun and possibly fancy cakes. Sell drinks as well. But you need to get your name out there. I feel so bad for you. And don't stop praying. I have also ventured in several businesses until God prospered me in the least likely. Dont give up yet.

  29. @writer like someone suggested about the sewing, it just gave me an idea. Since you have no capital for the machines, why not rent out space for tailors who do want to come and sew for their clients but maybe do it out of their house. How big is the shop? you can also maybe rent out spots to suya makers, petty sellers who make breakfast like eggs and bread with agoyin beans. Basically people who will not use electricity... Rent out out some of the space to make a little money and then invest in drinks. Drinks always sell

  38. Hmmn... Very Interesting!! But what is the need to cry? My dear, the last thing you need right now is cry... secondly, pls shun dos askin u to go for deliverance or the other. Welcome to Business 101!

Have you seen any businessman that will tell you he is not owing company or individuals? I doubt! What you need you need now is Perseverance.

From experience, I can tell you your major problem was dipping finger into so many things at the same time. Unless you are a casino mogul, ever heard of anybody combining game lounge with soccer viewing centre?

Why not drop the idea of gaming and concentrate more on soccer viewing centre? I suspect gaming just wasn't for you..

All You need is to take your time and reload again. As somebody posited, do a bit of publicty stunt. Do an agressive house-to-house marketing sharing handbills. Secondly, you can share edibles like small sausage roll after half time to sustain existing customers while they help you with the rest of the promo..

    Goodluck dear!

  46. Buying and selling or food business is what I'd have expected you to go for. Drop the business plans for now, not everyone is a good business person. Concentrate on getting a job and getting out of debt. I don't know if you stay in the village, with all these job offers of N10k. Pls find some1 you can stay with in Lagos ans start your search from there

Perhaps Oyinkan and other kind hearted people can help out. Thanks Oyinkan for the one you have done

    ReplyDelete
  47. 1st she didn't ask for money from anyone, and that makes me want to believe her story.

Nigeria today is probably a place where you can only guess about your tomorrow, there's almost no guarantee for livelihood. If you have something to eat today just one government policy can ruin that tomorrow and if you do not have today just one government person in your family can also change that.

Even the working class/employed do not have any form of job security, they work in abject fear.

Today in naija, if you are not making money in a cruel means you can never live above average.

Here's is what my only advice will be, be steadfast, be rational and never give up. No thriving business today sailed easily from scratch.
