The palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has been gutted by fire. The inferno razed down about 21 rooms of the ancient palace. The fire started around 6am today. Every part of the affected apartment was completely razed. It was gathered that a lot of his wives belongings were affected. Valuable clothes, jewellery and some undisclosed amount, all went with the fire. Kabiyesi has refused to talk to anyone.

The Oyo State government will rebuild it for him and therein lies an opportunity to modernise the palace. Thank God no life was lost. Their material things can always be replaced.
